I am married to an Iranian and we spent 3 weeks in Iran just past March. I was amaized how much my own impressions of this country corresponded with the author of this book. She was able to catch and comunicate in her book the character of Iran and its people so well!
I highly recommend this book! You are up for a very pleasant journey!
Perhaps they are foolish but a great read anyway. Learned a good deal. My book club enjoyed, lots to discuss
I started out enjoying it, but it became very repetitive. I don't feel I learned anything beyond the first few chapters. She could have accomplished her goals with a much shorter piece.
HILARIOUS!
I read a lot of the reviews and agree that there appeared to be some repetition however it gave me a real view into a country I likely will never visit. I will be recommending it for my book club. I hope most of them will enjoy it as I have.
Definitely worth picking up if you are interested in a world which is very foreign from western civilization.
This book is really simple, funny and educational for whom like to know about Iranian culture and their way of life. I suggest all Canadian/Iranian (( the writer is Canadian, who travels to Iran )) to read this book and bet you gonna have moments of tear and laughter w surprising ending.
Also, if you are planning to have an exotic trip to Iran, read this book, bet you gonna buy your flight ticket the day after;>
A pleasant surprise of a book. I was aware of the generous nature of the Irani people, but never have I seen it put so eloquently before. The stories told are not just fun but they seem to touch the soul to give an awareness of what's missing in the west. With so many negative stereo-types of the Irani people, it is like a breath of fresh air to finally see the true colors of what these people are all about! They have a sense of what is important in life - Family, Friends and even Strangers - PEOPLE over THINGS. This seems to be a consistent theme throughout the middle east. The people will take their last tomato from their garden, slaughter their only goat and give their company the best of what they have to offer. Their sense of joy comes from watching those around them be sated. I can't recommend this book enough! It is especially easy to read and would be a good book for a young adult as well as the sophisticated reader. Plenty of laughs as well.
